Teeth Whitening (bleaching)
Bleaching is done to remove a thin outer layer of the enamel that causes a yellowish colour. Oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide are used to ‘oxidize’ the surface of the tooth to lighten the shade of the tooth. While this is the easiest way to whiten one’s teeth, this procedure is known to cause some sensitivity in some patients. Currently, some sealing agents can be used to minimize the sensitivity.
Ceramic Veneering
This is a more effective way of whitening teeth. This procedure involves the enamel layer being interlaced with a more rigid material that would improve enamel thickness and prevent the dentin layer from being visible. This eliminates the yellowish look of the tooth and provides a whiter outlook. Two main types of material can be used for this procedure, composite material and porcelain material. Composite is a cost-effective option while porcelain is a more durable choice.
